International Womens Day 2021
HAPPY INTERNATIONAL WOMENS DAY
At this time of year it’s another reminder for us to all to reflect, encourage change and challenge.
It also makes us think what and who has inspired us in our own lives and what impact have we had on other women?
Our rich Sikh history shows us the courageous warriors on and off the battlefield who we can proudly call our Mata Ji’s of the panth. If we can unlock a drop of their strength from within us we are winning!
If we focus towards today’s women who have tireless been protesting for over 100 days in Delhi at the Farmers Protest we can see that courage hasn’t left us. On the frontline from day 1 and still creating a loving, homely environment for their families too as well as sisterhood! JUST WOW 💚
I took a step back to look at my life before Sacred Sikh wasn’t born. I spent nearly twenty years working with young people to motivate, inspire and encourage them to make informed decisions about their future and education. Every day was an inspiration!
One of my favourite projects was Larkia, aimed at young South Asian Women. We had a blast! We had a different cohort of young women come through the doors every year, so it was exciting to see who we would be working with next. They would stay with us at the university for two nights and three days. For some it was their first time away from home and a very testing time for parents, as they had to trust in us to keep them safe. The girls were the first in their family to consider higher education and were from disadvantaged backgrounds. Some were shy and some were just ready to go! By the end of the project which consisted of workshops, motivational speakers, trips out, mentoring they were just buzzing with confidence and ready to take on the world! It made me so happy to see what an impact it had made on them, their younger siblings and hopefully their future daughters. We even saw some of them enrol at the uni and then go on to graduate. I saw myself in them all at some point and they were an inspiration to me too.
Let our future generations talk and write about us! Share your inspiration, be the inspiration.
Vaheguru bless all my sisters always.
